Processing Room Fitout

We plan and supply compact poultry processing rooms that work from first bird through to packing, with clear product flow and practical equipment choices. From Gauteng to KZN, we help keep the room tidy, easy to clean and suited to the daily volume you need to handle.

Room Layout That Keeps Product Moving

Good processing starts with a sensible path through the room. We plan the layout so live bird intake, stunning, bleeding, scalding, plucking, evisceration, chilling, packing and waste handling do not cross over each other. That matters in a small room where every square metre counts and where cleaning has to happen quickly at the end of the shift.

For most compact poultry rooms, we work around cold-room access, drainage falls, hand wash points and the position of floor drains. We also look at municipal rules, practical power supply and water availability before equipment is chosen. If the room is in a coastal area with high humidity, or in a town where load-shedding is common, we will plan around that from the start so the equipment list matches real conditions and not just a drawing.

  • Workflow planning for intake, dressing, chilling and packing
  • Space use for rooms from about 20 m² upward
  • Drainage, washable wall finishes and hose-down points
  • Clear separation between dirty and clean areas

Equipment Supply For The Actual Throughput You Need

We supply the equipment that suits your daily bird count, not oversized kit that sits idle. A small operation may only need basic stainless steel tables, hanging rails, sinks, a controlled scalding setup, plucking equipment, drainable floor grates and a chilled holding area. Larger rooms may need more than one work point, extra processing tables and better separation for by-products.

Typical compact room equipment can include stainless steel benches in 1.2 m or 1.5 m lengths, hand wash basins, knife sterilising points, drainable offal containers, splash screens, chilling tanks and packing surfaces. Where needed, we can also include feeder points for holding birds before processing, hot water supply planning and simple extraction to manage heat and odour. Materials are selected for washdown use and regular chemical cleaning, so the room stays serviceable in local conditions.

  • Stainless steel contact surfaces for easy cleaning
  • Sink, wash and sanitising points placed where staff can reach them quickly
  • Drainage and water take-off planned before equipment is set down
  • Options for manual or semi-mechanised processing lines

Step-By-Step Fitout Process From First Visit To Handover

We keep the process straightforward. First we inspect the room or building shell, measure the usable area and check the existing services. Then we map the process flow and decide what should stay, what must be changed and where each item of equipment belongs. After that we issue the equipment list, confirm lead times and coordinate installation supervision.

During fitout, our team works with your builder or maintenance staff so the room is ready for equipment placement, water connection and power connection. Once installed, we test the practical flow, check washing access, and make sure the team can move safely between tasks. Commissioning includes operator familiarisation and, where required, training on cleaning routines, basic fault checks and daily shutdown. The room should not only look right, it must work when the birds arrive.

  • Site visit and measured layout review
  • Process flow drawing and equipment schedule
  • Installation supervision and commissioning
  • Operator training for daily use and cleaning

Turnaround Times, Phasing And Project Control

Turnaround depends on the room size, equipment mix and how much civil work is needed. A simple fitout for an existing room can often be planned and supplied faster than a full conversion, while a new processing room with chilled areas, wash points and power changes will take longer. Where possible, we phase the job so essential processing can continue while upgrades are done in sections.

For many compact poultry processing rooms, planning and quoting can be completed within a few working days after the site information is received. Supply times vary by item availability and custom work. If you are in Limpopo, the Free State or a more remote area, transport and install dates are planned early so the right crew and parts arrive together, not in bits and pieces. That saves time and a lot of avoidable back-and-forth.

Pricing Built Around Volume, Hygiene And Service Life

We quote according to room size, equipment specification, installation complexity and the level of finish you need. A small processing room that only needs basic work surfaces and wash points will cost less than a room that includes chilled holding, extra drainage work and multiple stainless assemblies. We also price for practical service life, because cheaper gear that rusts or warps under washdown conditions becomes expensive very quickly.

For budgeting, it helps to think in three parts: the room works, the equipment works, and the team can maintain both. We can separate supply only, supply with supervision, or a full turnkey package. If there are existing items worth keeping, we will advise honestly on what can be re-used and what should be replaced. No one needs to pay twice for the same function.

  • Supply only or supply plus installation supervision
  • Turnkey pricing for new rooms and upgrades
  • Options to phase spending by area or by equipment group
  • Advice on reuse of serviceable existing equipment

Maintenance Intervals That Keep The Room Legal And Usable

Processing rooms need regular attention because moisture, fat, blood and detergents all work against metal, seals and fittings. We recommend daily washdown checks, weekly inspection of drains and spray points, and a monthly review of fasteners, electrical protection and worn contact parts. In busy rooms, a quarterly service visit is often worth it to catch small issues before they become downtime.

Typical maintenance items include drain clearing, hinge and latch checks, seal replacement, pump or motor inspection where fitted, and corrosion checks on cut edges or fixings. In coastal areas the schedule may be tighter because salt air shortens the life of unprotected parts. We can also help with spares supply and refresher training so your operators know what to watch for between service visits.

  • Daily clean-down and visual inspection
  • Monthly mechanical and fitting checks
  • Quarterly service on higher-use rooms
  • Spare parts planning for urgent replacements

Who Handles Your Project

Your project is handled by people who deal with poultry systems every day. John Frederick Marshall oversees the business, with support from Anika van der Merwe on technical sales, Sibusiso Dlamini on projects, Thabo Nkosi on service, Lerato Mokoena on operations, Nadine Jacobs on procurement and Musa Cele on training and support. That means you get one team that can plan, supply and back up the fitout after handover.

We work from Jet Park, Boksburg and support customers across Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West, Free State and KwaZulu-Natal. If you need a compact processing room that is practical, easy to wash and suited to your actual bird volume, we can help from the first measurement through to the last commission check.

What clients say

Questions we get asked

Can you fit out an existing room instead of building new?

Yes. We often work with existing rooms and improve the flow, hygiene points and equipment layout without starting from scratch.

Do you help with equipment selection for different bird volumes?

Yes. We size the room and equipment around the number of birds you handle per day, so you do not overbuy or end up short on capacity.

How often should a processing room be serviced?

Basic checks should happen daily and weekly, with a fuller service monthly or quarterly depending on use, moisture levels and the local environment.
